KEY TO MOTIVATION
by SUPERHEAVY

What is one of the biggest things that anyone that workouts and tries to eat right has to deal with? That’s right motivation! So what do you do for your motivation? I personally like to set goals for myself. I think setting goals help you stay focused and on the right path. And it also gives you direction.

My motivation has changed over the years as it will for anyone that works out. I have done a lot over the last 15 plus years that I have worked out. In high school it was for football and to be the strongest one in my high school. I came very close. Thanks DR… Just kidden! After high school I really didn’t have a goal or direction so just worked out for a few years. I of course got stronger but for what? I then caught the bug to become competitive again and focus on a goal/sport similar to high school. I did a few local bench competitions in Florida, but then relocated to the Seattle area and became a personal trainer. This is where I found and became heavily involved in Body building. However, bodybuilding did not give me the motivation I needed to workout. I returned back to my roots of heavy lifting and getting ready to compete in powerlifting competitions.

My goal now is to train for a bench competition as well as to help my girlfriend train for her half marathon in July. You know how you have to help the woman in your life so you can get what you want. I hope to compete at the end of the summer after her half marathon. It is keeping me focused and on point. I felt that bodybuilding really was not my thing. I have always had the fire in me to lift heavy and to push myself to the limits. After I reach my bench weight goal I will then compete in a bench competition and will realign my goals to work on my squats and dead lifts so I can compete in a power lifting meet. I now have not only a long term goal, but also a short term goal that will help me stay focused and motivated.

So, you ask, how do you stay motivated? Simple. Remember to stay focused on what your goals are no matter what life throws at you and continue to stay on track. Write them down, put them on your fridge, calendar or even your mirror in your bathroom. It could be a picture or just something that is written down such as a quote to remind you of what you what to accomplish or achieve. Do whatever it takes. Also, it is good to surround yourself with people that are a good at helping you stay motivated and focused on your goal. Sometimes motivation is in form of a good workout partner or someone there to just push you and remind you of your goals. This person can help you not lose sight of your end goal. I am lucky enough to have both. I have my girlfriend that is amazing and she reminds me all the time as woman can do so easily. Also, I have a great workout partner. We have been working out since high school together. So…do whatever it takes to reach your goals and let nothing stand in your way of them. No EXCUSES!!!

And remember… “if the bar ain’t bending then your just pretending!”
